What For This House Stands For and Why You Should Care

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been a whole year since For This House started. This project was born out of a desire to encourage and uplift, but we also wanted to start conversations that will point us all back to Christ in all that we do.

Ally and I sat down recently to brainstorm what we’re doing with this platform and brand. It’s been a fun passion project, and we have so much more vision for it, but how do we communicate that to others? Why would anyone else read or write along with us?

Essentially, why should you care?

Reflecting on the Name

Our name comes from a verse out of Joshua that reminds us of the importance of being grounded in the Word and keeping focused on serving the Lord in all things.

“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” ~Joshua 24:15b, NIV

In this chapter, Joshua contrasts the worldly gods of heritage, upbringing, and culture against the one true God. He calls the Israelites back to the mission to serve and seek the God of creation.

This beautiful commentary quotes Francis Schaeffer:  “The English uses a future tense here, but the Hebrew tense has a fuller meaning. It expresses continuous action. It involves the future, but it can also point to the past. Joshua was undoubtedly affirming, ‘I have chosen, and I will choose.’

Creating Our Mission

It’s the present and future aspect of Joshua’s firm conviction to serve the Lord that we also want to embody through every word that is published on For This House

Our base topics may vary greatly, but at the heart of it all we truly want to glorify God through each topic, which is how we came up with our core mission to keep us on the straight and narrow:

“Every season. Every space. All for Him.”

Casting Vision

So with our mission clear and with Christ at the center of it, we came up with a single driving question to weave a common thread into all that we publish:

“In what seasons or spaces are you serving the Lord?”

Seasons

We’re embracing all stages of life—single, married, kiddos, post-kids, studying, searching for something, running away from something, perfectly content… You name it, we’re here for it.

Spaces

Your physical fitness, your job, your home, your family life, your hobbies and passions. In whatever sector of your life you find spiritual clarity through reflection, that’s what we want to hear about.

Past, present, and future

It might be something on your mind constantly, something that happened years ago, or something you’re preparing your heart for in the future. If it’s a season or space that you feel or felt convicted by, let’s hear it.

See how this question can be woven through everything?

From entertaining toddlers to unpacking big social justice issues, God calls us to serve him through it all.

This is where you come in...

1. Become a Reader

Readership is our number one priority. We aim to produce thought-provoking content to bring your perspective back to Christ in all things, and we hope that you’ll read and share our content with others when you feel so inspired. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram or Facebook.

2. Become a Writer

We are so happy to have a few amazing guest bloggers that have written this far, and so many more already lined up through the rest of this year. If you’re also interested in telling your story about how you’re serving the Lord (past or present) in a certain space or season, please connect with us!

3. Pray with Us

We absolutely believe in the power of prayer, which is why this is a foundational piece of our work. You’ll notice that we’ve started to end all our blogs in this way to bring our minds back to Him in all that we do.

Our prayer for For This House

Dear Jesus,

May all who come into this space be pointed back to you. May their lives feel lighter, be richer, and shine brighter by involving themselves in our little online community.

Keep us close to you, Lord, as we strive to encourage and uplift those around us–both face-to-face and in this digital space. Fix our eyes on you in all things that we may glorify you in all spaces and seasons.

Thank you for the capacity to be creative and vulnerable. Use our efforts to further your kingdom, Lord, and lead us in the way you would have us go.

Amen

4. Support For This House

We have a Buy Me a Coffee page for you to join this project financially to help fund the software and services that make this all possible. We’re currently putting in lots of time and some money, too, to make it happen. It’s our passion, and we’d be so blessed if you’re willing and able to support us in this way.

5. Give Us Feedback

When you’re producing content it can sometimes become a closed loop and get quiet really quick. While we appreciate your likes on social media, we also love getting comments or messages with real feedback. Tell us what you liked, what you didn’t, or what you’d like to read about. We’re excited to write for you or find guest bloggers with real experiences to fill in the gaps.

We’re so thankful you’re here. Turning a passion project into something that others can enjoy and join in with is truly a dream come true for us.

Here’s to a great year two of For This House! 🥂
