About For This House

How it started

Ally began For This House as an Instagram account in 2021 with a heart bent on leaning into simplicity. In a world focused on adding and acquiring, it is difficult to focus on existing daily rhythms. Spending hours dreaming about “what could be” is easier than leaning into “what is”.

For This House was intended to be a space to openly lean into the present in an attempt to serve The LORD wholeheartedly in our current seasons and spaces.

In 2023, the vision expanded with starting a blog to create a collaborative space for encouraging and uplifting Christ-followers by sharing honest, heartfelt reflections on everyday topics involving home, health and heart.

Thank you for following along with this venture! We pray that this space will boost you.

Meet the Founders

Ally Veldhuisen

Ally Veldhuisen

Hi, my name is Ally and I am a serial project starter. My vision for starting a blog has ruminated since middle school. However, while I am semi-creative and a lover of deep thoughts, my true passion has always been for working with young people. I’ve taught or cared for students in grades K-8 and invested in campus life for college students in the Midwest.

My husband and I moved to Iowa after marrying in 2020. When our family began to grow, living by family was on our hearts. We decided to adventure to the Pacific Northwest with our sweet baby boy in 2023 and are now putting our renovation skills to the test. You’re bound to see some before and after pictures here!

I love baking recipes from library cookbooks, watching Downton Abbey in the fall (I’ve seen it start to finish at least 5 times), spotting whales in the Puget Sound, and drinking coffee while it’s raining.

My story includes two special little boys and the greatest husband I could have hoped for. We’ve lived in the beautiful and adventurous Sea to Sky Corridor of BC for the last six years and we love soaking up the outdoor time whether on the trail or on the water.

Professionally speaking, I’ve worked across many industries but I’ve specialized in digital marketing and website optimization. I’ve always wanted to carve out a creative outlet of my own, and I’m thankful to be joined by other great women looking to share their own thoughts and voices.

I love listening to audiobooks, enjoying long neighborhood walks, catching up with friends over a margarita or a flat white, and dreaming up fun new local and exotic vacations for me and my family.
